Some items have more sentimental value, like the dozens of elephant figurines and carvings that Weldon inherited from a grandmother who collected them from around the world. A mid-century credenza was a gift from another friend, while a grey Article sofa and a set of kidney-shaped coffee tables came with the house. A rattan armchair in one corner came from a friend who was divesting after a breakup. The slat wall was a perfect complement to Weldon’s eclectic vintage-filled décor, populated with storied art and objects collected over the years. Due to COVID delivery slowdowns, the brass hardware and fixtures were slow to arrive, but worth the wait. In the main bathroom, crisp subway tile balances warm custom teak cabinetry. Fastening the boards with brass pegs in an artfully random pattern, he created the final effect-and an unexpectedly striking focal point. With local lumber prices soaring, he settled on ironwood, an ultra-dense Indonesian material that resembles teak and is typically used for decking. Where a wall came down between the living area and stairwell, Bradley proposed a wood-slat divider to set off the stairs but keep natural light shining through. “I had seven boards just sitting in my shop and I couldn’t believe it, but we brought them over to the house and they matched perfectly.” They also got lucky hunting down discontinued domestic-pine floorboards to match those the previous owner had installed. Then he remembered some leftover materials in the back of his workshop, from a demolition in White Rock. “I thought, we’ll never find something to match,” says Bradley. There was just one problem: removing the front door had left a missing chunk in the middle.
